Who can participate in the football program?

 

  • The PYF program is open to all boys/girls in the Pentucket District as well as residents of Georgetown in grades 2-8. Players are placed on teams by grade: 2nd-4th D team, 5th-6th C team and 7th-8th A team. 
  • There are no weight limits to play football however there are weight restrictions on ball carrying positions. The maximum weights to play offensive ball carrying positions are as follows: A Team 158 lbs, B Team 145lbs, C Team 120 lbs and D Team 93 lbs.


 

When does the season begin and when/where are practices?

 

  • The PYF season begins with “conditioning” scheduled for the first or second week of August and is typically 4-5 days per week at the coaches’ discretion.
  • After Labor Day, regular practices will be scheduled 4-5 days per week.
  • All practices take place at the Pines Recreation Area Groveland: 222 Main St Groveland MA 01834
  • Scrimmages or practice games are typically scheduled as early as late August.
  • Practices occur rain or shine. Always check the website, Facebook and emails/texts from coaches if there is any question about practice being affected by weather.


 

When and where are the games?

 

  • The season’s game schedule is determined by CAYFL with the first games scheduled to begin after Labor Day.
  • There are 9 games in the youth football season and 1 potential Super Bowl game for grade levels 5-8. Games are typically played on Sunday, occasionally Saturday.
  • A- C (5-8) teams can potentially advance into the playoffs extending games by 1-2 weeks. All games will be played by the second week in November.
  • Games will be played at home and away.
  • Games are subject to change. Changes can sometimes be last minute as a result of uncontrollable events such as weather, stadium restrictions/changes, or other external factors.
  • Games occur rain or shine. Always check the website, Facebook and emails/texts from coaches if there is any question about a game being affected by weather.


 

What is the commitment in terms of time and travel?

 

  • August through November, expect 5 days per week to be scheduled with practices and a Saturday or Sunday game. Being able to commit fully to the time requirements is critical to the development and advancement of each team, excellent attendance is a must. 
  • PYF participates in the Cape Ann League and therefore games are scheduled with Danvers, Lynnfield, Newburyport, Masco, Amesbury, Marblehead, Hamilton-Wenham, North Andover, Winthrop, Gloucester, Manchester-Essex and North Reading. 


 

What do you need to know about football equipment?

 

  • Each player will be fitted for a helmet, shoulder pads, padded pants, girdle and jersey prior to practice beginning. Jersey fitting will be scheduled for an afternoon mid July. Equipment pick up will be scheduled for one afternoon at the Pines Recreation Area Groveland in late July.
  • Mouth guards, cleats with rubber plastic spikes and practice pants will need to be purchased separately
  • Players will be expected to bring all football equipment and a water bottle to each practice and game.

 

 

What do you need to know about registration?

 

  • Registration for PYF is typically held from March- June ahead of the upcoming season.
  • All new football registrants must provide a copy of their birth certificate upon registration.
  • Registration fees and family caps are determined yearly by the PYF Board.
  • Registration fees cover season-long rental of helmet, shoulder pads, padded pants, girdle and jersey, a portion of field expenses, administrative costs, insurance and league dues.
